How to Properly Fill Absorber Material into Canisters

If you're looking to put absorber material into your canisters, it's important to follow the right steps to ensure a good seal, proper function and protect from material getting into areas that could hinder the sealing and operation of your machine. Here's a guide on how to properly fill absorber material into canisters, including the small and large animal side.

The Small PBA Canister

• Unscrew the top of the canister.
• Pour the absorber material into the canister.
• Line up the top and screw it in place, making sure there is a good seal from the gasket underneath. Be careful not to cross thread the canister when installing. Turning it counterclockwise at first helps it to click into place and align properly, then you will be able to turn it clockwise without any binding. It should go on smoothly.
• You should be able to tell when it is in position, as the Mallard sign should be facing towards the front of the canister and it will be a snug connection at this point.

The Large Animal Canister

• Unscrew the large knob holding the canister in place.
• Remove the lid and the hold down knob/rod assembly.
• Caution: Make sure that the small white cap on the end of the chain inside the canister is placed on top of the white rod to cover the hole where the rod goes in to hold the canister down, so that absorber material does not get into the threaded rod insert below when filling the canister with absorber material.
• Pay attention to the red fill line, as the absorber material should be kept under this line so that nothing goes down into the tube section.
• Be careful when pouring the material into the canister to not to get it into the section.
• You can expect to change the absorber material every four to eight hours, typically based on about two cases. The color of the material will change when it is time to replace it.
• When putting the canister on any surface, make sure not to scratch or gouge the bottom, as this could create a leak on the gasket mating surface.
